“OUR HEROES . . . Bikers honour Canadian troops as country remembers D-Day” was the Sunday Toronto Sun front page headline trumpeting the success of 2nd Annual Heroes Highway Ride. Over a thousand motorcycles participated as we rode from Trenton to Bowmanville’s Downtown core where thousands more Canadians joined our post-ride rally.

The HHR’s growth, year over year, is largely due to our unique approach to charity motorcycle rides by making the event free to all participants and accepting voluntary donations on behalf of our chosen charity, the Wounded Warriors. Total donations collected during our 2010 event exceeded $14,000. As well, we opened the post-ride rally to all interested parties, so they could also participate with us in recognizing the sacrifices of our troops, past and present, as well as the individual sacrifices of their families.

The Perfect Pigs Motorcycle Club’s vision of hosting an open and accessible event for all Canadians has become a reality and we expect that, going forward, we will experience significant growth due to mainstream recognition of our event. Our 2011 Heroes Highway Ride takes place on Saturday JUNE 4th with an anticipated increase in participants due to the success we experienced in 2010. The HHR is planned to begin at 10 Acre Truck Stop in Belleville, as it has in the past two years, and we will ride past C.F.B. Trenton before following the Highway of Heroes to this year’s destination in Oshawa. The 2011 post-ride rally is planned to be larger than 2010 with more vendors and increased activities for attendees, including more live music.

For 2011, we are very pleased to announce that Master Corporal Jody Mitic will be returning as our Grand Marshall. Jody was wounded in action while on foot patrol in Afghanistan when he stepped on a landmine and, although he survived the blast, Jody suffered serious injuries to his lower legs. The doctors were unable to repair the extensive damage and were forced to amputate his feet. Jody endured a long and painful rehabilitation but his determination and courage throughout his recovery, has not only seen him walk again, but run in marathons and return to his love of riding motorcycles.
